Best Coast

Easy breezy. California natives master the lo-fi garage sound.

There is no shortage of young American groups producing lo-fi garage-pop, but only Best Coast are fronted by Bethany Cosentino. She gives the Los Angeles trio's debut album, Crazy for You, its achingly romantic slant with an "take it easy" feel that can only come out of the Golden State.

Crazy For You launched the band to Indie royalty being featured on iTunes and having a free single of the week (where I discovered the band). "Boyfriend" was the first track I heard from Best Coast and I was instantly hook. Cosentino's reverb-filled vocals sounds like sunshine at times and blends with the laid back feel of the band in a way that reminds me of a cheaply produced Katy Perry or Paramore's Hayley Williams.

Their debut album is a classic to me personally. Pitchfork gave the album a healthy 8.4 and featured it on their "Best New Music" list amongst other indie gold such as Arcade Fire and Waaves.
