A Springy Trio With An Eclectic Sound.
The Spring Standards is an indie-pop-rock meets country-folk-blues trio from New York City.
James Cleare, Heather Robb, and James Smith have known each other since they were teens
and recently teamed up to form this energetic and refreshing sounding band. Not only do the
lead vocals switch between the three of them, but their style does as well. The music fan
with ‘ADD’ would admire the ever changing genres from song to song, swinging from folk to
country to pop with a mix blues.
“We all write and we just have whoever we think would represent it best sing it,” James Cleare
said.
Heather’s sweet voice paired with James’ soothing soulful voice can be compared to Edward
Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros or Scarlett Johanson and Pete Yorn. The sound has a coffee
house appeal mixed with edgy pop notes. "We’re like a mixture of The Black Keys with Crosby
Still and Nash," said James Smith.
Their style is fun, upbeat, and keeps you listening and wanting more. Listen to: ‘Bells and
Whistles’ which channels the cool, chill, everything-is-okay vibe of Nick Drake. ‘In the
Underground’ strikes up and is country complete, and ‘Little Bug’ has an old school meets
modern blues Elvis feel.
Their first full-length album, “Would Things Be Different” produced by Bryce Goggin,
was released on April 13th, 2010. They are currently touring with Wakey!Wakey!.
