The Shins frontman and Danger Mouse get the formula right.
How long does it take to put a band together, rehearse, write songs, release an album, and score your first hit? About six months. At least that's the timeline for Broken Bells, who formed their band last October and have been moving up the charts since their album was released in early March.
The band's two members, James Mercer and Brian (Danger Mouse) Burton come from two already successful bands. Mercer heads "The Shins", whose haunting song "New Slang" broke through in the movie, "Garden State". Burton is half of Gnarls "Does That Make Me Crazy" Barkley and is a respected producer, crafting songs for Beck and Gorillaz among others, earning him eleven Grammy nominations. Rolling Stone says "the two pop-science geeks are a perfect match."
Their first single, "The High Road" has been parked in the rock top ten for weeks.
